December 29, 1926 – June 3, 2012

Phyllis Ann (Phillips) Swafford, 85, of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed from this life on Sunday, June 3, 2012.

Born on December 29, 1926, she was the daughter of George William Phillips, Sr. and Pearl Laconia (Bullard) Williams. During her youth, Phyllis tap danced at the corner drug store and sang every day on the local Perry, OK radio station. She loved to sing and dance, and was a member of the Chorale, Glee Club, and Trio while a student at Perry High School where she graduated with the Class of 1944.

She began working at Kramer’s department store, where she was named the Clerk of the Week in June, 1945. After the death of her father in 1951, Phyllis and her mother moved to Tulsa, where she truly loved her job working at Brouse Shoes in Utica Square. She married William Elmer Swafford. They divorced in 1972.

Phyllis volunteered at the church and made bibs and lap pads for nursing home residents, because she liked “to help the old people.” She always had a canine companion in her life, and cherished each one.

She enjoyed reading, loved to bake, and she loved the Lord.

Her biological family preceded her in death, but she is survived by her treasured dear ones; Dianne and George Mills, Rob, Renee’ and Canyon Keller, Angela, Shelly and Kelsy Harges, Brian Williams, Dan McMonigle, Rhonda Cameron, Brandon Garret, Somer Bordwine, and special friends and neighbors, Gerald Hewitt, Kathy Black, Laverne Wood, Betty Cook, Pam Thompson, and all her special friends at Greentree.

A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 pm Friday, June 8, 2012 in the Chapel of Gary Kelley’s Add’Vantage Funeral Service, 9761 E 31st Street, Tulsa, OK. Interment will be at Grace Hill cemetery, Perry.
