Laconia Mae “Connie” Allen

April 29, 1931 – February 27, 1950

Laconia Mae “Connie” Allen, 18, died unexpectedly early Monday at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Phillips, Sr., 1018 Grove street. Miss Allen had been ill only a few hours. She died of heart failure following complications of influenza.

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on April 29, 1931, she came to Perry in 1937 to live with her grandparents following the death of her father in Tulsa. She graduated from Perry high in 1949.

Laconia was employed by Foster’s drug store for several months before going to work as a switchboard operator for the Bell Telephone company.

She was an active member of the First Baptist church.

In addition to her grandparents, she is survived by: her mother, Mrs. Helen Parker of Portland, Oregon; two brothers, Reggie and Joe David Allen of Portland; sister; Mary Francis Allen of Portland; an aunt, Miss Phyllis Ann Phillips of Perry, and an uncle, George W. Phillips, Jr., of Stillwater.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Newton funeral chapel with Rev. W. C. Campbell, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill cemetery, Perry.
