Dorothy Agnes (Tobin) Curry

April 22, 1932 – December 26, 2023

Dorothy “Mimi” Agnes Tobin Curry, 91, of Greenville, South Carolina entered into eternal rest with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 26, 2023. She passed in her home surrounded by her loving family and treasured Christmas decorations.

Born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, on April 22, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Blaine E. and Agnes Strothman Tobin. Dorothy attended Perry schools, was active in cheerleading, and graduated high school in 1950.

She married George A. Curry in 1951 and they were the devoted parents to seven children. George’s IBM career took them from Oklahoma, Kansas, and Connecticut to South Carolina, which they proudly called home.

Dorothy was very proud of her Oklahoma heritage. Her grandmother Effie Strothman was an early pioneer coming to Oklahoma via the Santa Fe train in the fall of 1889. Effie then purchased a horse and went to claim her homestead by living in a cave and working the land. Effie was granted 80 acres of land by then President Grover Cleveland in 1895. The following year, her grandfather Louis P. Strothman came to the area and bought a relinquishment. Her paternal grandparents were early Oklahoma pioneers as well. She always embodied that same great pioneer spirit and deep faith which lives on in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

By living a holy and evangelistic life, she spread the light of Jesus Christ to all she knew and met. Dorothy’s life was one of living the two greatest commandments of loving God above all others and loving her neighbor as herself. She demonstrated an immense love of the Eucharist, an unwavering devotion to her Catholic Faith, spending hundreds of hours in Adoration and Pro-life prayer. Dorothy was an amazing friend, evidenced by her years of selfless service to others.

Dorothy was an awesome cheerleader for her Lord, Jesus Christ, for her brothers and sisters, for her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, for her country, for her Oklahoma Sooners, and for her Clemson Tigers.

She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, the Guilds of Saint Thomas, and Saint Benedict.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Curry of 58 years; her dear daughter, Marsha Lynn Curry; and her sisters, Shirley Samson and Phyllis Speiser.

Surviving are two daughters, Deborah Morgan and Michelle Tompkins; four sons, Kevin Curry and his wife Kathy, Clark Curry and his wife Nancy, Kelly Curry, and Kirk Curry and his wife Valerie; sister, Maxine McGee; brothers, Dalvin Tobin, and Ed Tobin and his wife Rosemary; ten grandchildren, Heather Morgan, Ryan Curry, Rose El-Kara, Sean Curry, Eryn Marshall, Corey Slife, Lynn Marie Tompkins, Sophie Curry, Charlie Tompkins Jr., and Leo Curry; three great grandchildren, Kennedy Grace Lay, Curry Byrd Marshall, and Lore El-Kara.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Prince of Peace Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. A private burial will be held in the M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery, Anderson.
