– daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland E. States, 719 Jackson, wants to attend a beautician’s school after getting her high school diploma.

She was born March 6, 1927, at Lambert, and attended the Lambert and Braman grade schools and the Braman high school before enrolling here. She is a member of the Horizon club, the Methodist church, and Perry’s Teen Town.

Extra-curricular activities include this year’s senior play and speech banquet, and three years as a member of the glee club.

Iona “Joyce” (States) Jenkins

March 6, 1927 – October 11, 2022

Iona “Joyce” Jenkins, 95, died October 11, 2022, at Bentonville, Arkansas.

Born in Lambert, Oklahoma on March 6, 1927, she was the daughter of Leland Edward Bertha Elizabeth Bathurst States. Following her graduation from Perry high school in 1945, she completed a course in cosmology in Wichita, Kansas.

On June 2, 1946, she and Donald Fillmore Jenkins were married at Santa Monica, California. He was a graduate of Stillwater high school and was serving with the U. S. Navy. They made their home in California. While Joyce was making a home for their five daughters, Donald provided for them as a building contractor and rancher. They shared 53 years of marriage before his death in 2000.

Survivors include: their daughters, Brenda Nielsen and her husband Martin of Clayton, California, Pam Houpe of Bentonville, Arkansas, Kathy Stone and her husband Bud of Roosevelt, Utah, Cindy Carley and her husband Rick of Ukiah, California, and Kerri Towmey and her husband Jeff of Foster City, California.

Interment will be beside her husband at the Ukiah Cemetery, Ukiah, California.
