– 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Campbell of 718 Sixth street, attended grade school in Clovis, N.M., and Altus, and was in Marlow high school before coming to Perry.

She was born Feb. 19, 1931, in Oklahoma City. Her plans following graduation include studying at Oklahoma A.& M. college with a major in psychology,. An honor student, she served as class secretary-treasurer in 1945-46, and is a member of Rainbow, Y-Teens, and RRF.

Merilyn (Campbell) Cress

February 19, 1931 – January 17, 2021

Merilyn Cress went home peacefully to be with the Lord on January 17, 2021.

Born in Oklahoma City on February 19, 1931, she was the daughter of Lynn Avery and Mary Homa Gibbons Campbell. Following her graduation from Perry high in 1948, she enrolled at Oklahoma A. & M., Stillwater, where she was named to the Dean’s honor roll and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

On July 16, 1950, she and Bobby Joe Cress were married in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They made their home in Texas where Bobby was employed in the oil field supply industry. He established his own company, Crestex, in 1984 and sold it in 1996. Merilyn worked tirelessly by his side in this endeavor and in the many other entrepreneurial companies they owned over the years.

Preceding her in death were: her husband of 55 years, B. J. Cress; her parents; and granddaughter, Lydia Cress.

Survivors include: survived by Sara Lyn Cress of Houston, Texas, Larry Alan and Karen Cress, of Spring, Texas, Bradley Scott and Jenny Cress of Prescott, Arizona and Lisa Diane EtTony McCall of Magnolia, Texas, brother and sister-in-Law, George and Carolyn Cress, cousin Terry Thomason, 7 grandchildren, Jason Cress, Julie and Ken Culver, Derek and Brandis Cress, Ryan and Melissa McCall, Mackenzie and Ryan Lasneske, Dylan Cress, Joel Cress, and 9 great grandchildren, Avery, Jackson, Grace, Nora, Levi, Caely, Eden, Autumn and Gillian.

Memorial services will be held Monday, Jan. 25 at 11:00 am at Church Project, 602 Pruitt Rd, The Woodlands, Texas followed by a graveside ceremony at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery located at 13102 North Freeway 1-45. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to the Houston Furniture Bank, in memoriam to Merilyn Cress.
