Jay Atwood’s plans for the future call for enrollment in college. A veteran of football and basketball, Jay is 18 years of age. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Atwood, route 2, Perry. He has attended school at Taft, Texas, Drumright, Garber, and Perry. Jay was born June 25, 1933, in Kembro, Kansas.

Jay Dean Atwood

Jay Dean Atwood, 87, died November 7, 2020.

Born in Kembro, Kansas on June 26, 1933, he was the son of the late Glenn Harold and Anna Marie (Pitzer) Atwood. Growing up the son of a petroleum engineer, Jay attended schools in Kansas, Texas, and Oklahoma. He graduated from Perry High School in Oklahoma, lettering in both baseball and basketball as well as being a charter member of the Perry Alumni Association. He carried his love of sports with him throughout his life, cheering on his much-loved Oklahoma teams every chance he could.

After graduating, he volunteered for the draft and was immediately sent to Korea to serve in the war. Upon returning from his military duties, he attended Central State (now known as the University of Central Oklahoma), graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science, and later retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

He married the love of his life, Bonnie Hunt, of Orlando, Oklahoma on April 25, 1959.

Jay was an avid domino player and had a smile for everyone he met.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brother John Atwood.

Survivors include: his beloved wife of 61 years; four children, JaLene Atwood (Kevin Alato), Jeff Atwood (Sheila Atwood), Elizabeth Atwood (Perry Gatewood), and Kristina Atwood (Mitch Newlin); grandchildren, Jayme Alato (Justin Skinner), Jamin Alato, Gavin Ice and Madeline Newlin; great grandchildren Jaxon, Jude, and Juliette Skinner; and brother, George Atwood.

The family will be holding a private service at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma.
