Corene Kirtley, 17, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Kirtley, 1125 Ivanhoe street. She was born Sept. 28, 1939, in Perry, and plans to attend Northern Oklahoma Junior college. Corene has been in the band since 1953 and is vice president this year. She also has been on the student council, Teen Town council, annual staff, served as 1955-56 annual queen attendant, was in the junior and senior plays, served as assistant business manager and business manager of the yearbook, was homeroom secretary, and took part in the annual revue and class assemblies. Her favorite subject is speech.

Frances “Corene” Jones passed away on February 2, 2025.

Born in Perry, Oklahoma on September 28, 1939, she was the daughter of Larkin Jess and Dorothy Velta (Koch) Kirtley. Following her graduation from Perry high in 1957, she continued her education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University for a short time, then moved to Oklahoma City and began working for Twentieth Century Fox on what is now Film Row in downtown.

She met Glenn Gale Jones in 1959 on a blind date after he returned from the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, California. They were married on December 5, 1959, and moved into a duplex on NW 28th and Western. To this union two sons were born.

Glenn Sr. transferred with OG&E to Canton, Oklahoma, in 1972, where they were the only full-time residents of the cabin area at Canton Lake. They moved to Canton in 1989.

Corene worked as the high school secretary at Canton for 17 years before they retired to Norman, Oklahoma, to be near their beloved Sooners in 1994.

Following the death of Glenn Sr. in 2013, she moved to Edmond, where she lived until moving into assisted living in 2021.

Preceding her in death were: her parents; husband, Glenn; and brother, Clane Kirtley.

Survivors include: her brother, Gary Kirtley, and Ruth Ann Erdner; sons, Gregg and wife Carol of Springtown, TX, and Glenn Jr. and wife Kim of Edmond, OK; granddaughter, Kelli Apple, and husband Justin of Springtown, TX; grandson, Wade Iven of Okeene, OK; great-grandchildren, Joie, Jaycie, Kinleigh, and Wyatt; grandson, Noah Jones, and wife Lindsey; and great-grandchildren, Chloee and Luke; grandson, Matthew; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Friday, February 7, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 North Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73071.
