Nancy Marie (Coyle) Hasenfratz
January 29, 1936 – September 20, 2025
Nancy Marie Hasenfratz, aged 89, passed away quietly on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at home surrounded by family. Daughter, wife, mother, provider, community member extraordinaire, friend, and one extremely generous and loving human being, Nancy had an infectious smile and sparkling blue eyes and was well known in Kingfisher as the “volunteer of volunteers.” She was a unique, kind soul whose goal in life was to help other people as much as possible using her many talents.
Born on January 29, 1936, in Perry, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Robert and Beaulah Coyle. Her parents encouraged her life-long interest in music, and she excelled at playing the flute, piccolo, and piano as a child, winning first chair in flute in the Oklahoma All State Band in her high school years.
In 1956, she married her high school sweetheart, Waynard Hasenfratz. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in September of this year. Nancy and Wayne had three children: Bob, Sally, and Anne.
After moving to Kingfisher in 1965 with Wayne and their children, Nancy volunteered all over Kingfisher and beyond over the next 60 years. She had a particular passion for supporting the Kingfisher Hospital for several decades as a “pink lady,” and she served on the Hospital’s board. She loved and contributed to the Federated Church in Kingfisher by teaching Sunday School, Youth Fellowship, and Vacation Bible School for many years, and her Sunday School students knew her as “Mrs. H.”. She baked communion wafers, brought food to church events, served the Presbyterian Church as a delegate for the Cimarron Presbytery, also serving in many other roles for the church. Nancy was a very active member of P.E.O. chapter Y, the Kingfisher Study Club, the Kingfisher Golf Association, and was an election board and regular precinct worker.
She took her love of music to as many as she could and taught piano and flute lessons for years to children both at home and at the St. Peter and Paul School in Kingfisher and played piano at local nursing homes.
Nancy had a particular dedication to working with special needs children and was honored with the Maurice Walraven Award by the State of Oklahoma in 2003 for her work with disabled kids.
She was an avid baker known for sharing her cookies, cakes, and pies, particularly her oatmeal-raisin cookies, German Chocolate Cake, apple and pecan pies. When baking became harder for her in her later years, she turned to making popcorn to give away to so many and was soon known in town as “the popcorn lady.”
Survivors include her husband Waynard Hasenfratz and her children Bob, Sally and Anne.
A memorial service for Nancy will take place on Friday, September 26th at 10:00 a.m. at the Federated Church in Kingfisher Ave (400 W. Fay St in Kingfisher).
