George Russell Vester has participated in football, wrestling, and baseball in high school. He was born Sept. 18, 1954, in Ponca City. He resides with his grandmother, Mrs. Bessie Mae Vester, 311 Holly street. His favorite subject is government and he lists girl watching as his hobby. After graduation plans include college or the Navy. He plans to attend Phoenix junior college.

George Russell Vester, affectionately known as “Chico or Smokey”, peacefully and unexpectedly, was called from the labors of this life into eternal rest on March 16, 2024.
Born in Ponca City, Oklahoma, on September 18, 1954, he was the son of Patricia J. Vester. His informative years were spent in Perry, Oklahoma, where he was raised by his grandmother, Bessie Mae Vester, and Cecil Autry (“Pops”) who instilled in him, a faith in Jesus Christ.
During his childhood, he gained first-hand experience hard work on local farms bailing hay, and tending gardens while attending Perry Public Schools. Throughout his schooling, he developed a deep passion for baseball and wrestling, excelling in both disciplines. His involvement in the maroon wrestling team not only cultivated enduring friendships but also contributed to a remarkable legacy, propelling the team to consecutive state competitions from 1970-1974. After graduation, George made a pivotal decision to enlist in the U.S. Army where he served as a Medic.
The family has always held a significant importance to George. He married and facilitated a close bond with his children, his siblings, and his extended family. George, with his infectious smile and being the voice of reason, was the life of the party and with his energetic energy, would light up any room in which he entered. He was a jack-of-all-trades and was also known for his culinary skills.
Preceding him in death were: his mother, grandmother, “Pops”, and brother, Billy Shelton, and grandchildren Kambia and Kimora Vester.
Survivors include: his 6 daughters, Prystina Jordan, Artricia Vester, Nicole Vester, Ashley Vester, Georgia Vester, and Gillian Vester; 2 sisters, Shirley Carey and Diana Shelton; stepson, whom he raised, Herbert Polk, Jr.; bonus daughter, Chloe Johnson; father, Scott Sanders, Sr., brother, Scott Sanders, Jr., aunt, Lucille Jordan; grandchildren, Trevon Lolar, Tarien Goree, Keira Jimenez, Kari Long, Kason Humber, Kambrin Haynes, Khy Black, Kree Black; great-grandchildren, Thyhale Goree, Kaleenah Goree, Thyair Goree, Kyia Goree, and Julius Goree, along with a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Services will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024, 1 pm, at the First Baptist Church on Perry, 601 N. 7th St. Perry, OK, officiated by Reverend Maxie Vick and Reverend Michael Ashley.
