– was in the band in her sophomore year and in the glee club in her junior and senior years. She will go to Oklahoma City after graduation to attend Business college. Stamp collecting, piano and reading compose her hobbies. She attended Hunter rural school and Perry High School. Dencie Vae was born in Perry in 1921 and has lived near here since. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Cook.

Dencie Leava (Cook) Norton

April 17, 1921 – February 11, 2008

Dencie Vae Norton, 86 of Choctaw, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2008. She was born to Charles and Ida (Nelson) Cook on April 17, 1921 at the family farm in Perry, Oklahoma, Noble County.

She graduated from Perry High School in 1939. Dencie loved to sew and knitting being able to be self-employed by these skills by owning her own shop called Lavae’s Knit & Stitch.

Dencie is survived by 3 sons: Charles Norton & wife Sandy of Del City, Ken Norton & wife Karin of Santa Barbara, CA, and Melvin Norton & wife Judy of Choctaw, 6 grandchildren: April, Dennis, Amy, Vivian, Valerie, and Elizabeth, 3 great grandchildren: Ashley, Brandelyn, and Jasmine.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, 1 brother, and 2 sisters.
