Ruby Fern Nelson

- has been secretary-treasurer of the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes, was band queen in 1943-44, was on the student council in 1941-42, cheer leader of the Red Hots in 1943-44, and is a member of the Perryscope staff and clerk of Teen Town.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Nelson of 15 Elm street. She was born November 13, 1927, at Morrison, but has never attended any schools except the ones in Perry.

Ruby Fern is a member of Kappa Teen sorority, Teen Town, and the First Christian church. She wants to attend college after finishing high school.

Ruby Fern (Nelson) Collins

November 13, 1927 – January 9, 2003

Ruby Fern Collins, sister of two Perry women, died January 9, 2003.

As an employment specialist with AARP, Ruby enjoyed placing senior citizens with jobs while familiarizing employers with the value of senior employees.

Ruby was active in politics and public service, and was a member of Clubette, an auxiliary to the Young Men’s Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George John Collins, by 15 years. Ruby and George were lifelong donors to the University of Oklahoma and were dedicated supporters of Oklahoma Sooner Athletics.

Ruby is survived by her children, Penny Breen of Wayside, New Jersey, Georgeann Acker of Muskogee, Oklahoma, and John George Collins of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two sisters, Evadna Nelson and Margaret Seeliger, Perry; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Ruby also cherished a bounty of friendships, too numerous to mention.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2003, at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Home at 6006 North Grand Blvd., in Oklahoma City. Interment will be held at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Edmond, OK.
