Wesley Barker

– won attention for this participation in three sports while a student at Perry high school. Active in many class affairs, Wesley was a member of the football, basketball and wrestling squads, and earned a letter jacket while taking part in the sports.

He is the son of G. E. Barker of route four, Perry. Not yet 18 years old Barker plans to work until called for service.

A student at PHS for the past four years, Wesley previously attended Cooper, district 60, school.

Wesley LeRoy Barker

December 1, 1925 – July 9, 2009

Wesley L. Barker, 83, of Salina, died Thursday, July 9, 2009. He was born Dec. 1, 1925, in Lucien, Okla., the son of George and Fannie Sanders Barker. Wes was a Soil Scientist for the USDA Soil Conservation Service.

In retirement, he worked as a crop adjuster.

He was a graduate of Oklahoma A&M and a World War II Army veteran. Wesley was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for 18 years and enjoyed being a scoutmaster, storyteller, avid photographer, golfer and fisherman. He was a master gardener and established the Community Garden of First Southern Baptist Church.

Wes was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolly Marie Wadsworth Barker, and son, Kent. He is survived by his spouse, Pamela; son, Kirby and spouse Marla, of Topeka; stepsons, Chad Wolf, of California, and Lance Hinde, of Salina; and stepdaughter, Rachel Hinde, of Salina. He also has five grandchildren, Andrea Sander and spouse Nathan, of Derby, Christina Barker, of Topeka, Scott Barker, of Topeka, Andrian Barker, of Phillipsburg, and Olivia Hinde, of Salina.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, where family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday evening.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at First Southern Baptist Church, Salina. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Memorials are suggested to the church community garden or Hospice of Salina.
