Elsie Lorene (Snyder) Blakley

May 7, 1914 – April 28, 1999

Funeral services for Elsie Lorene Snyder Blakley, age 84, of Douglas will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 1999, in the Ladusau-Evans Chapel. Rev. Joe Stubbs and Rev. Ron Graber will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery southeast of Pioneer School.

Elsie, daughter of Martin and Ida S. Hoffsommer Snyder, was born on May 7, 1914 near Lucien, Oklahoma and died at her home on Wednesday, April 28, 1999. Her elementary schooling was received at Harmony School on the farm homesteaded by her father in the run of 1893. She graduated from Perry High School and later attended business school in Amarillo, Texas.

On January 15, 1938 she married Clifford W. Blakley at Perry. They lived in Douglas until 1950, at which time they moved to a farm southeast of Pioneer School that was homestead by Clifford’s father in 1893.

Elsie was a homemaker who loved gardening and her flowers. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Christian Union Church.

Surviving are her children, Martha Penner of Douglas, John Blaklev and wife, Joy of Enid, Carol Giles and husband Jim, of Enid, and Larry Blakley of Douglas. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Christi Penner of Enid, Jason Giles of Portland, Oregon, Amanda Giles of Stillwater, Jennifer Blakley of Stillwater, and Jeffrey and Joseph Blakley of Enid.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford on December 7, 1975 and by six brothers and five sisters.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Cancer Division or Hospice Circle of Love.
